And We’re Off!

You see, all of our rehearsals so far have been costume-less, prop-less, and light-less. We’ve occasionally rehearsed with live microphones, but they’re not the same mics we’ll be using onstage. We’ve had sets to work with, but they’re not the real sets – we’ve been miming the lifts (the pieces of stage that rise and sink out of view), pretending to be aware of the pyrotechnics happening (can we say spectacle?), and approximating the entrances, exits, and numbers we’re supposed to hit across the stage.
So we’ve got a TON of work to do in the next couple of weeks – and we’ll be putting some of those shows up in front of audiences as early as the second night we’re on board! (It’s a staggered process.) We’ve been told to prepare for it to get a lot worse before it gets better, which I confess wasn’t exactly the send-off I was hoping for. 🙂 But hopefully a lot of patience will help smooth out the process!
In the meantime, L.A. is sending us off with a beautiful, slightly overcast day, which I celebrated by hiking (for the second time) with my brother Brian in the Hollywood Hills. We then went to a delicious brunch at Sweet Butter, home of one of the 10 best croissants in L.A., apparently. Not gonna lie, they were DELICIOUS.
Our flight leaves at 6 am tomorrow morning, so I’ll be going to bed quite early tonight. Not sure how the internet situation will be on the ship, not sure how crazy my schedule will be, and very not sure how much sleep I’ll get tonight, so I don’t know when I’ll be able to post next, but I’m psyched to begin the new phase of this cruise ship adventure!
